A special youth season statewide is set for Oct. 14 and 15 for ages 15 and under.
Special regulations apply for all Canada geese taken within the Crane Creek/Ottawa mandatory reporting zone in Lucas and Ottawa counties and the Mosquito Creek zone in Ashtabula and Trumbull counties.
The daily bag limit is two Canada geese and two brant, except in the Lake Erie Zone, where the bag is one Canada and two brant. The daily goose bag also may include two white fronted geese and up to 10 "light" geese, including snow, blue, and Ross' geese. The vast majority of geese available, however, are Canadas.

Forecasts of a strong fall flight of waterfowl have allowed both Ohio and Michigan wildlife agencies to continue liberal hunting seasons, including 60 days for ducks. Fish Wildlife Service has indexed the fall duck flight at slightly fewer than last year's record 105 million birds, pegging it at almost 100 million.
Ohio goose and brant Lake Erie Zone Oct. 21 through Nov. 4, and Dec. 16 through 30; North Zone outside lake zone, Oct. 21 through Nov. 26 and Dec. 8 through Jan. 9; South and Ohio River Zones, Oct. 21 through 31, and Dec. 4 through Jan. 31.
Woodcock hunting opens Saturday and runs through Nov. 6 statewide. A special youth deer hunt also is set for next Saturday and Sunday.
The daily duck bag is six statewide, according to the same species formula in place in Ohio.
A special late Canada goose season will be open Jan. 13 through Feb. 1 in Allen, Auglaize, Delaware, Fulton, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Licking, Seneca, Stark, and Union counties, and in portions of Ashtabula, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Lucas, Sandusky, Summit, and Wood counties. The Mercer Canada goose reporting zone in Auglaize County is closed during this special season.
Several other Michigan hunting seasons also are just under way.
Hunters must obtain a free special late season goose permit. Applications also can be requested in person at Crane Creek, by calling there at 419 898 0960, or by calling 1 800 WILDLIFE.
The daily bag limit is six ducks, but it may not include more than four mallards, of which only one may be a hen. The daily bag also may include up to three scaup, or bluebill; three mottled ducks, two wood ducks, two redheads, one black duck, one pintail, and one canvasback. The daily limit on mergansers is five, including only one hooded, and the daily limit on coots or mudhens is 15.
Abundant waterfowl reason for liberal duck season
Small game seasons opened Friday for cottontail rabbit and varying hare, ruffed grouse, and fox and gray squirrel. Rabbit season continues through March 31. Grouse hunting continues through Nov. 14 statewide and resumes Dec. 1 through Jan. 1. Squirrel season continues through Jan. 1.
The daily Canada goose bag limit is two during the regular season, except in the Allegan, Saginaw, and Tuscola/Huron units, where it is one.
Black bear hunting, which began a week ago in the upper peninsula, continues through Oct. 26.
Legal waterfowling hours are a half hour before sunrise to sunset. Sunday hunting is permitted. Hunters must have a valid license with state duck stamp endorsement, a Harvest Information Program (HIP) number, which can be requested with license purchase, and a signed federal duck stamp.
The Jan. 13 Feb. 1 goose season is open in Lucas County west of I 280 and I 75 north to the Ohio/Michigan line. In Wood County the season will be open west of I 280 and south of I 80. 6.
