Actress Luba Goy on bedbugs
My fianc and I came back from New York. The place was nice and clean and she had left because she knew we were coming home. In bed that night, I put my hand under the pillow and I could feel a movement. I'm very sensitive. I flip the pillow up and think, "What the hell is this?" My fianc was an English major. He had thousands of books. He said, "I think it's body lice." He Women Canada Goose Trillium Parka Gray Outlet Australia gets a book and opens it to this page and there's a blow up of body lice. I thought I was going to faint!
Psychological warfare? Would that work on bedbugs?
Absolutely not. Bedbugs are slow moving, bloodsucking creatures. They wait.
One theory on the prevalence of bedbugs has centred on the diminishing array, due to environmental concerns, of chemicals that exterminators can employ against them. Should we get those chemicals back?
We scooped up the sheets and put them in the bathtub. I ran a very hot bath and put in bleach and soap and took a can of Black Flag and sprayed the hell out of the mattress, then went and slept on the couch. Oh my God! But we never had another problem. They were gone.
Some have called the dramatic rise in bedbug infestations a "pandemic." Is the term overused?
Bedbugs live in your bed. Spiders just drop down from the ceiling. A little spider, he bites you, then runs away. I've been bitten by mosquitoes, blackflies, horseflies, deer flies. I've been bitten by a cat. If I did get bitten by a bedbug, ugh, the thought is worse than the deed! No one wants to wake up and think something has been feeding on them.
Chemicals have never eradicated the cockroach.
Absolutely! Eradicate the little buggers!
When I was at National Theatre School in Montreal, our apartment had cockroaches. Every student apartment had cockroaches. You'd live with them. What you do is knock on the door, come in really loud, make lots of noise, turn the lights off and on. Wait and do it again. And then I wouldn't see them. They terrified me.
If you have bedbugs in your house, it's definitely a pandemic. If you have more than three mice, it's a pandemic. Air Farce, in our radio days, was on tour for 18 years. We never stayed in sleazy places, but we have stayed in off the road motels and I never once thought that they'd have bedbugs. Where they're coming from now, I don't know.
I had an experience once at National Theatre School as a student. I was away in New York for two weeks. I lent my apartment to this girl. She hung around the theatre. A nice person, but poor. She would go from friend to friend, apartment to apartment, sleep on the couch, that sort of thing. A nomad.
